In July I will celebrate a big birthday. Believe it, or not, I am really looking forward to it. The party invitations have been posted and I can’t wait to share the day with my family and friends.
This birthday is a milestone. As I reflect on the different stages of my life – school years, marriage, motherhood, and becoming a grandmother – the one constant thread has been my love of sewing.
Recently, as I was fossicking in the linen cupboard, I came across my first sewing projects. Looking at the stitching took me straight back to when I was seven years old. I can still feel the excitement and anticipation. I remember the angst, combined with delicious joy, of trying to decide what stitch and thread colour to use next.
Nothing has changed. After all this time I still have angst combined with delicious joy as I decide what quilting pattern to use on the border of my latest quilt.
My days are filled with quilting. Rarely a day goes by when I don’t do some sewing. If I’m not sewing then I am thinking about sewing, talking about sewing, or designing something to sew.
This is my life, and perhaps – my destiny.
